The Gumball Rally is a car film first and a comedy second. It’s also the only film that doesn’t boast a sequel. Michael Sarrazin, Tim McIntire and Raúl Juliá star, and Raúl Juliá’s performance as an Italian race driver remains one of its best bits. Like The Cannonball Run, this film is based on the cross-country race, but has a slightly more realistic feel than Cannonball. The movie trailer describes the race best: “An all-out, anything goes, completely illegal race.”
Most important to sports car lovers, the featured vehicles, including Ferraris, Cobras and Porsches, look great and sound real. This is one of those lost gems we highly recommend to any car or movie buff.
